While spending the night at his son’s house, Grandpa happened to stumble upon a bottle of blue pills tucked away in the bathroom cabinet. Curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to ask his son if he could try one. His son hesitated for a moment before answering cautiously, “Dad, those pills are pretty strong, and they cost $10 each.” He wasn’t entirely sure what to make of his father’s unusual request, but he wanted to make sure Grandpa understood what he was asking for.
Grandpa simply smiled, looking as relaxed as ever, and replied, “No problem. I’ll leave the money under the pillow before we leave in the morning.” His son shrugged, assuming it was just a harmless, one-time request. He had known his father long enough to recognize that Grandpa had a playful streak and rarely let an opportunity for a little fun pass him by. Still, he never imagined that his father’s casual promise would lead to such a surprising discovery the following morning.
The next morning, after Grandpa and Grandma had left, the son walked into the guest room to straighten things up before getting on with his day. As he lifted the pillow, he froze for a moment. There, tucked neatly underneath it, was $110. He stared at the money in disbelief, counted it again, and shook his head. Ten dollars for one pill? That didn’t add up. Confused, he immediately picked up the phone and called his father. “Dad! I told you the pills were ten dollars each—not a hundred and ten!” he exclaimed, genuinely puzzled by the unexpected payment.
On the other end of the line, Grandpa burst into laughter before replying, “I know! But after last night, I figured it was worth every penny!” His son needed only a second to understand what his father was implying. Suddenly, the confusion gave way to laughter, and he couldn’t help laughing along with him. Once again, Grandpa had managed to turn an ordinary family visit into an unforgettable joke, reminding his son that age had done nothing to dull his mischievous spirit, quick wit, or remarkable sense of humor.
